Box Office Results: June 10th- June 12th 2011

Super 8 came in as the #1 Movie in AMERICA, debuting with $37 Million worth of movie-goers cash. Not far behind was the X-Men prequel "First Class", which raked in $25 Million bucks. Nintendo debuts Wii U

Wii U's main console hardware Nintendo Nintendo, for the majority of this console generation, has been content to play its own game. Now it's ready to take the fight to Microsoft and Sony.
The company on Tuesday unveiled its next generation home video game machine -- dubbed Wii U -- that will be flush with the high-definition graphics gamers have come to expect, as well as a unique, touch-screen controller. It's scheduled to launch in 2012.
Like the Wii, the Wii U (which, despite the name, is not an institute of higher learning) revolves around and innovative controller. Equipped with a 6.2-inch LCD touch-screen, a camera, a microphone and an accelerometer, the controller acts as a sort of fusion of a gamepad, tablet PC and a handheld gaming system.
The system will allow players to transfer games from their TV to the controller seamlessly, something that will be handy for families with a single TV. In other words, Johnny won't need to turn off his Super Mario Bros. outing so that dad can watch the Cowboys game.
Nintendo also ran video demos showing off some of the ways in which the controller will interact with the console. Players will be able to ‘sling' elements from the controller to the TV, such as using the touch screen to throw shurikens at targets on their HD set.
Users will also be able to use it as a digital sketch pad, to have video chats and to surf the web.
Wii U's tablet-esque controller Nintendo Nintendo showed several demos for the system and said it had a version of its hit Super Smash Bros. in the works. The system's high definition capabilities put it on par with both the Xbox 360 and the PlayStation 3 -- and that seems to have won over developers, who have been slowly moving away from the Wii as sales of that system have faltered.
Among the publishers who have pledged support are Electronic Arts, THQ and Sega, who plan to bring games like Darksiders 2, Aliens: Colonial Marines and Assassin's Creed to the system.
The Wii was accused to being so focused on attracting a new type of player that the core gamer, who traditionally has made up the bulk of Nintendo's loyalist customer base, was left out. Nintendo made it very clear that it hopes to win that audience back with Wii U, but doesn't plan to abandon the masses who made the Wii so successful.
"Some hardware is seen as only appropriate for the most passionate players," said Satoru Iwara, global president of Nintendo. "Others, like Wii, they say, seem to attract a large number of casual gamers. As an industry, what we haven't achieved yet is a game platform that is equally satisfying for all players. This is exactly what we intend to create with our new platform."

While the Wii U was the company's primary focus at the event, it did announce several titles for the 3DS that should help the handheld system, which has seen sales stumble since its launch, regain ground. Super Mario 3D, Mario Kart 3D, a new Star Fox title and a game starring Nintendo icon Kid Icarus are all scheduled to hit stores this year.
And the 25^th anniversary of its indomitable Legend of Zelda franchise hardly went unnoticed. Effective immediately, 3DS owners are able to download The Legend of Zenda: Link's Awakening for free in the newly-launched eShop. Next week, the 3DS exclusive remake of the classic Ocarina of Time hits stores, and by the end of the year, The Legend of Zelda: Skyward Sword will be out for the Wii.
In September, DSi owners will be able to freely download the four-player co-op game The Legend of Zelda: Four Swords Adventures. Before the end of the year, Nintendo plans to host a series of global symphony performances dedicated solely to the music of Zelda.

The LeBron James Game 5 Mystery.... Or Solution?

In case you haven't heard, the cool thing to do during the NBA playoffs is to start a rumor about an NBA player having sex with a woman close to LeBron James.

Many have speculated what exactly is the source of James' malfeasance during crunch moments in high pressure situations throughout his career. Dating back to his only other trip to the NBA Finals when he played for the Cleveland Cavaliers and they were swept by the San Antonio Spurs. Back then it was chalked up to youth and inexperience.

But since, it seems to be something a little deeper.

Rumors are nothing new to LeBron, ever since his highly polarized acceptance of a Hummer S.U.V. in high school and his foregoing of college to enter the NBA draft because of the allegation, James career has been in some sort of spotlight.

For a player to have never committed and felonious acts, James has been surrounded by as much scrutiny as he has had hype. As much criticism as he has had praise. As much admiration as he has had aversion.

So what gives??

You can look at the situation with LeBron James in a few different lights:

1. James brought it all on himself; self proclaiming himself "King" in a league with LEGENDS.
2. People just love to hate
3. It is a perfect way to get into his head without having to play good defense or score a single basket.

To think about, it might be the most genius idea invented to stop a dominant player since "Hack-a-Shaq."


So how did all this start....

We can go back to the series that raised eyebrows initially about James intentions to head to South Beach, taking his talents and baggage with him as well to link up with Wade and Ol' boy (Chris Bosh new name.)

During the 2010 NBA Eastern Conference Semifinals, LeBron James and the Cleveland Cavaliers went up against the Boston Celtics with a team that bolstered the likes of Shaquille O'Neal and Antawn Jamison. James' and the Cavs had the series tied up when all of a sudden things for James offensively stopped clicking. He and guard Delonte' West were not on same page in the half court offense, James was however passing the ball with great efficiency, but played with absolutely no aggressiveness.

Could have been because shortly before the game it had been reported that James' mother, had been in an intimate affair with teammate and Gollum from Lord of the Rings look-a-like Delonte' West. A rumor that to this day has been neither confirmed nor denied.


Look closely at the stat line for LeBron.

I give props to the TNT and NBATV staff for sugar-coating the hell out of this game for the public. It would have undoubtedly crush the league if they would have exposed this mysterious play like this guy did that I found online.....

Also props to that guy for putting that in the air like that. But he was right about everything except one thing in my eyes. Well at least now that is.

It is not the elbow, it is not the fact that he wanted out of Cleveland (He just got Shaq, ironically enough,) it was the newest form of intimidation. Psychological manipulation of the competitive psyche.

This form of mental breakdown isn't unknown in recent years in the NBA, just this season Laker's forward Pau Gason went AWOL against the Mavericks and basically the entire postseason as a whole as rumors started to swirl around allegedly his fiance cheating on him. Some said it was Kobe Bryant's wife Vanessa's fault while others told a story of Shannon Brown having an affair with her.

Not only did it appear to affect Pau's play, but his teammates were feeling the heat as well..

The Los Angeles Lakers ultimately were swept by the Dallas Mavericks and up-ended in front of the world. And although one person does not make a team, when it is one of the most pivotal forces on a championship team, it can be critical.

Let's take a look the performance LeBron put on after the news of

Once again kudos to the NBATV and the TNT staff for putting together another series of highlights without spotlighting the poor performance of LeBron James.

Just before Game 5 of the NBA Finals, it was alleged that James longtime girlfriend and baby's mom Savannah had an illicit affair with now Washington Wizards forward Rashard Lewis when he spent the last few days down in South Beach.

Although not as funny as last year’s sex scandal, this rumor is clearly taking its toll on LeBron. I mean come on, can this guy catch a break? Last year was bad enough and he was forced to shun the fans of Cleveland because of it.

Now LeBron is in the bright lights of South Beach and now has to hear that Rashard Lewis is piping his girlfriend and mother of his child? And it's not even like it is a MVP caliber player, like Dwight Howard or hell even Kobe! At some point in time we are gonna have to start questioning LeBron's ladies choice in men.

LeBron has been crumbling in this series much how he crumbled in the series past against the Celtics and the Spurs. And the reason behind it may just be the rumors. Jason Terry has been rumored to have been getting into LeBron's head with trash talk:

According to the insider, Jason Terry's trash talk goes WAAAY overboard. The insider explained, "He tells LeBron that [his fiance Savannah] is f*cking other players. He talks about f*cking LeBron's mom . . . [Jason Terry] says whatever he has to to get under LeBron's skin."

And the TRASH TALK seems to work. According to LeBron's teammate, "LeBron may [even] believe some of that [stuff]. It's effecting his play."

And the numbers may have the proof in the pudding. Let's take a look at LeBron's number after these alleged allegations surfaced.

Looks like teams have found out a way to finally stop the once uber dominant forward, without having to even play him.

Let's hope for LeBron sake next season if the Heat lose this series against the Mavs, that he doesn't have  a sister.....

LeBron's Big Game

Hey BlvdAve, let's jump right in. In case you missed it, this is how Game 4 went down.

 Game 4 pitted the Dallas Mavericks with their theorhetical backs against the wall vs the Miami Heat in the American Airlines Center in Dallas, TX. The buildup is neccessary primarily because typically a team down 2-1 with two games left to play at home wouldn't neccessarily mean it's a "back against the wall" type of scenario.

But for Dirk Nowitzki and the rest of the Mavs, it couldn't quite get any worse.

The Mavs star power forward registered a temperature of 102 degrees Fahrenheit, epically pushed forward in attempts to bring his team one game closer the coveted Larry O'Brien trophy. With the story lines circulating around 6th man Jason Terry's 4th quarter performance in Game 3, the rest of the Dallas Mavericks' seemed to be able to help out teammate Dirk Nowitzki when he needed them the most.

But there was something missing...

In another defensive battle, the Dallas Mavericks pulled together to even the series with the Miami Heat 2-2. Jason Terry started the 4th quarter with consecutive baskets, giving the Mavericks and an ailing Dirk the inevitable edge they needed to pull out one more, giving them great momentum heading into Game 5.

Despite Dwayne Wade having one of his best performances of his playoff career, the Miami Heat could not close out, once again, when it mattered most down the stretch. Udonis Haslem and Chris Bosh both played with their recent usual playoff consistency, scoring 24 and 4, respectively. Udonis Haslem's productiction was not neccessarily on the box score, but as his hustle and aggressiveness under the basket, freeing up Chris Bosh on multiple occasions to hit open shots and break to the basket.

But there was still something missing...

LeBron James played more minutes than anyone on both teams, logging 46 totals minutes of floor time. And came out of the game with a mere 8 points on 3-11 shooting, 0-3 from 3pt and 2-4 from the line. LeBron created a riddle that no one can seem to figure out in Game 4. He has all the talent in the world, but seemed powerless. He has all the athleticism on the planet, but appeared grounded. His indifference and ineffectiveness in Game 4 was jarring, and the amazing part is the Heat almost survived it.

Something the Dallas Mavericks can't be too happy about.


"You don't want to give them two chances to close it out at home, so this is our Game 7 and the last home game for this year in this building," said Dirk Nowitzki. "It should be a great atmosphere and hopefully we can pull it out."

And Dirk also understands the type of pressure Dallas now has with LeBron looking to obviously play a lot more aggressively. 

"I expect them to attack like they did in Game 3 where [Dwyane] Wade and LeBron got to the rim a bunch of times early," Nowitzki said. "We've got to be ready defensively. That's where we really made a mistake defensively in Game 3. We weren't ready to play on the defensive end and that's what really got us in trouble."

Rick Carlisle says the pressure is just a part of the job description.


"We love pressure," Carlisle said, "and the more the pressure's on, the better our team has functioned all year long. So bring it on."

So with Game 4 a mere memory and a tie-breaker on the horizon, let's take a look at some of the keys to tonight's match-up.

Game 5 keys to victory

The Obvious

Lebron James scored 8 points in 46 minutes of play, his worst offensive playoff game of his career and probably life. I expect that not to be the case in Game 5. Despite LeBron's poor offensive performance the Miami Heat still only lost by two. This is something positive for the Heat looking forward going into tonight's game. 

As long as LeBron improves slightly from his perfromance in Game 4, the Heat should have a strong chance of heading back to Miami looking to close out this headache of a series against the once thought soft, one-dimensional Dallas Mavericks.

But if LeBron continues to fade in the bright lights of crunch time, then not only Dwayne Wade who seemed to jar at Wade to motivate aggressiveness late in Game 4, and Pat Riley & Co. will be undoubtedly scratching their heads at how the best player on the planet can dissipate on basketball's biggest stage.  

The Sick

Dirk Nowitzki battled a 102 degree temperature to lead the Dallas Mavericks to a Game 4 win, but is it any better. To anyone who has ever experienced a fever or flu knows first hand the weakness that the virus can take hold of the body. So when Micheal Jordan bombed 38 points against the Knicks, it was to be noted that he was playing against 6 defenders. The same goes for Dirk.

More interesting in this matter is whether or not the other players in the series get exposed to Dirk's virus. The Mav's inevitably played with biological warfare as they Dirk out to compete with such a critical sickness, exposing germs to not only the opponent but his own teammates. Watch closely tonight as alot of players might be blowing their nose, or playing significantly less effective.

Nice move Dallas. 

So tune in tonight at 8pm ET as the Dallas Mavericks look to wind out their home stand against the Miami Heat and have two opportunities to try and close out the series down in South Beach.

And look for No. 6 from the Miami Heat on the court.
