In Memory of Combat Jack. 1969-2017

Without a doubt, Mason “Ma$e” Betha is one of the most polarizing artists in hip-hop. Nearly 20 years ago, the Bad Boy pin-up left Daddy’s house for the house of God. But like any true MC, Harlem native couldn’t leave the game alone and returned within five years. With a new renewed focus (and targets), the former pastor reflects on his legacy behind the music.

Jay-Z's Roc Nation, Diddy's Bad Boy, & Steve Rifkin's SRC Records in bidding war for Odd Future

SHOUTOUT TO KEVIN S. GARY OF HIP HOP DX for this story !

Odd Future leader Tyler, The Creator makes wild demands of execs looking to sign the Cali trouble makers.

With the hype surrounding the OFWGKTA (a/k/a Odd Future Wolf Gang Kill Them All) collective gaining momentum every day, MTV News is reporting that music executives are scrambling to sign the California emcees and begin monetizing their building buzz. While some of the individual members of the group have signed deals with labels, Odd Future itself remains unsigned. But that might not be the case much longer with people as high profile as Bad Boy Records founder and CEO Diddy and Roc Nation's Jay-Z getting involved in the bidding.

Diddy might have the inside track for now, having appeared at the South By Southwest festival with Odd Future. But Jay-Z shouldn’t count himself out just yet. Hodgy Beats was quoted by MTV News relating his admiration for the Brooklyn legend: "It was hard for me to look at Jay-Z for 10 minutes. Like, real shit, this is the godfather of music. I just shook his hand in his house. Honestly, it made me want to work harder. Jay-Z is amazing."

Another player who got involved in the Odd Future sweepstakes was SRC Records president Steve Rifkind. But in order to get a sit-down Rifkind was forced to meet a few of Tyler’s rather unique demands, which included “Randy’s Donuts, swivel chairs, and a megaphone.”

We've been staying on top of Odd Future since our very first post, delivering you good info and up to date news on the collective. We will continue to do so until we find out what label is the victor in this bidding war for ODD FUTURE !!!

Diddy Will Be First Billionaire Rapper, Says Forbes

props 2 hiphopdx for the info !!!

Earlier in the month, Forbes broke down the five wealthiest Hip Hop moguls, saying that the genre's top earners - Jay-Z, 50 Cent, Birdman, Dr. Dre and Diddy. Now, in a recent blog, Forbes's Zack O'Malley Greenburg explained why Diddy, who's worth a whopping $475 million, may be the first of the genre to make a billion dollars.

According to Greenburg, Diddy's extensive branding with his Bad Boy imprint and clothing lines like Sean John and Enyce have already netted him hundreds of millions of dollars. Experts indicate, however, that Diddy's involement with Ciroc vodka will prove to be essential to him reaching the billion dollar mark. Although Ciroc isn't selling as much as its sister brand Ketel One, Diddy's work with the budding vodka label may earn him nine figures in the future.

"The product is important," says one equity analyst from Edward Jones & Co Jack Russo. “But the name on the product is about ten times as important...Ciroc is a very popular brand, and it’s been growing. It has that cache. It’s in the right spot in the right sector.”

At the same time, Diddy's public image has proven integral to his immense success. His ability to reinvent himself as a mogul, a musician and an actorhas helped him create a multi-medium brand that consumers easily recognize.

"He makes his lifestyle coexist with everything else he’s doing,” said Hip Hop pioneer Fab 5 Freddy. "The broad scope of his career and how he’s been able to stay relevant is one of the great examples of personal brand-building."
