The Joe Budden Podcast Episode 167 "Hov's Greens"

This week, Joe, Rory and Mal had a lot to unpack. Joe begins by discussing the untimely passing of XXXTentacion and how it affected him (3:54). He also questions Rosenberg's loyalty to Hip Hop (8:47), addresses Akademiks (22:43) and speaks on getting out of the hood. While the guys were on tour Nas dropped his album “Nasir”, and they give their honest review of the project which was solely produced by Kanye West (40:25). Jay-Z and Beyoncè also released a surprise album the day after Nas and Kanye, and the guys determine if this was done strategically or coincidentally (57:23). They also speculate on some of the lyrics they feel were aimed at Kanye and/or Drake (1:09:11). This week is another loaded episode, enjoy. Thanks to all the listeners who showed up on tour!

NEW VIDEO: Substance Abuse feat. Aceyalone "Bridges"

Eso Tre and Subz are L.A. duo Substance Abuse, presenting the RCKLSS ABNDN-directed music video for the Waes One and Philm One-produced single “Bridges”, featuring Aceyalone of Freestyle Fellowship. Former URB Next 100 picks, their 2006 album Overproof (Bandcamp) featured MF DOOM, Saafir, P.E.A.C.E., Kool Keith, Motion Man, Kutmasta Kurt and Rasco, while 2012's Background Music (Spotify) featured Myka Nyne, Tash of Tha Alkaholiks, KRS-One, MC Eiht and Percee P. Aceyalone is a founding member of Freestyle Fellowship, a collective that brought an improvisational focus to the Los Angeles underground hip-hop scene in the 1990s. "Subz came up with the idea for 'Bridges' because he felt we needed to do a song about unity in these increasingly divisive times we're in," Eso says. "We couldn't think of a better emcee than Aceyalone to bring on board, as he has a special talent for creating dope songs built off of a single metaphor. Our goal was to create something in the tradition of our heroes The Native Tongues, a track that was jazzy, positive, and upbeat but with a message that the modern audiences could relate to."

On this episode, Joe, Rory and Mal continue their speculation on the beef between Drake and Pusha T. Joe reveals his theory regarding Hip Hop and the importance of “who backs you” in the industry (10:33). They also discuss how Drake is the biggest bully in Hip Hop but doesn’t respond well to pressure (29:14). Somehow Kanye attempted to make Wyoming cool for a day and the guys discuss the event and those in attendance (46:30). And Joe gives an in-depth breakdown of the Future story and discuss at what point he was right or wrong during their conversation (1:13:38).

Complex's Out of Bounds: NBA Stars Hate Steph Curry; Trump Disinvites Eagles

On today's episode of #OutofBounds, Gilbert Arenas, Adam Caparell, and Pierce Simpson discuss a report that some of the NBA’s biggest stars have a “disdain” for Steph Curry, the Warriors superstar who just broke the record for made three-pointers in an NBA Finals game. There are a variety of reasons why his elite peers may dislike the two-time MVP and two-time champion, and the guys lay out what rubs people the wrong way about him. Plus, they debate whether the LeBron James-Steph rivalry is real or a media-driven narrative to hype up the Finals.

With President Trump disinviting the Super Bowl champion Eagles to the White House because less than 10 players were reportedly going to attend their celebration, OOB discusses the matter in "The Pull-Up." Gil explains why the Eagles organization and players should have known better than to engage Trump and offers a winning strategy for making their point.

Staying in Philly, the panel talks about the Sixers hiring a law firm to investigate the "burner" Twitter accounts allegedly used by 76ers president of basketball operations Bryan Colangelo — or his wife? — to share insider information, slander players and execs, and defend Colangelo against criticism. The guys give their thoughts on who's responsible and how the scandal will and should end. Would it be wrong to fire a player or exec for something their relative or friend did?

In other social media news, Thunder big man Steven Adams claims his "fat fingers" accidentally liked an IG comment that clowned his underperforming teammate Carmelo Anthony. The boys give their opinions on Adams' explanation, how Melo will take the jab, and how this is going to affect the relationship between OKC and Melo going forward. Are they headed towards an expensive buyout?

Finally, in "Fair or Foul?" the panel weighs in on the NBA planning to use the Las Vegas Summer League to experiment with a system that will allow coaches to challenge referees’ calls. The guys have many questions about the undetermined particulars, but which is more important: getting calls right or maintaining a smooth game flow? Plus, Gil has a revolutionary solution to the league's refereeing issues.

BRILLIANT IDIOTS: THE STORY OF MAGIC (FULL EPISODE)

In this episode of the Brilliant Idiots podcast from the Loud Speakers Network, The Breakfast Club’s Charlamagne tha God and stand up comedian Andrew Schulz discuss the worst thing to come from the Pusha T diss track at Drake during their beef in which he revealed Drake's clothing brand Adinon with Adidas.

Published on Jun 4, 2018
On today's episode of #OutofBounds, former UFC champion Cody Garbrandt joins Gilbert Arenas, Adam Caparell, and Pierce Simpson to discuss his beloved Cavs losing Game 2 of the NBA Finals to fall into a 2-0 hole heading back to Cleveland. Despite Steph Curry scoring 33 points and making nine threes to set a NBA Finals record, Gil argues that the Warriors superstar is not the front runner to win the series MVP. Plus, Gil and Cody break down the problems with LeBron James' supporting cast.

In "Fire Fit," the panel rates the distinct Finals looks of LeBron and Nick Young. Are King James' suit with shorts ensembles acceptable for basketball royalty? And did Swaggy P wear the wrong Golden State throwback in Oakland on Sunday?

Next, OOB reacts to Cavs players Rodney Hood and J.R. Smith recently saying that it's difficult playing alongside a megastar like LeBron. Gil has some particularly strong words for both guys about their roles on the roster and their place in the lineup and league going forward. With the conversation turning to the necessity of putting in work and preparing to perform, Cody explains what goes into one of his fights.

Following an enlightening oral history of the Hamptons Five meeting, in which Kevin Durant revealed that he needed peer validation in free agency, the crew discusses what separates alpha males from betas in sports. Gil names the real Warriors alpha, as well as several superstars who were not alphas — including some that may surprise you.

In closing, Cody talks about what it's like to kick and be kicked in an MMA fight, so you don't have to find out for yourself.

You don’t want to miss out on the guy's answers. Enjoy another loaded episode!

Celtics Rock LeBron, Cavs; NFL Anthem Policy; Sterling Brown Police Brutality

On today's episode of #OutofBounds, Gilbert Arenas, Adam Caparell, and Pierce Simpson discuss the Celtics beating the Cavs 96-83 in Boston to take a 3-2 lead in the Eastern Conference Finals. An exhausted LeBron James put up 26 points and 10 rebounds but got little help from his teammates. Gil shines a light on Cleveland's glaring weakness and the adjustments that coach Tyronn Lue needs to make if the Cavs are going to have any chance of winning the series on the road in a Game 7.

Looking forward to tonight's pivotal Game 5 between the Rockets and Warriors in Houston, will Golden State bounce back from its horrendous, 12-point fourth quarter in Game 4 to win a second game in Houston and reclaim home-court advantage? Gil breaks down the severity of the Warriors' problems and what they need to do differently.

The NFL announced a controversial new policy that requires players to “show respect for the flag and the anthem” if they are on the field during its performance — fining teams if they do not — but allows them to stay in the locker room if they prefer. Debate gets heated between Gil and the guys as they react to the news from their personal perspectives as well as those of NFL owners and players.

While NFL players continue to protest racial inequality and police violence, Bucks guard Sterling Brown plans to file a civil rights lawsuit against the Milwaukee Police Department after officers tackled, tased, and arrested him without cause after issuing him a parking ticket in January. With police body-camera footage showing he in no way provoked the cops, OOB asks if there will be justice for Sterling and if his case will help bring about much-needed change in policing. Legal expert that he is, Gil explains how officers often escalate situations as well as how he personally approaches police stopping him.

Closing on a lighter note, the crew reacts to the NBA's All-Defensive teams and Jazz center Rudy Gobert being the leading vote-getter. Gil questions how the players are determined — especially when two of them are on the same team. One famous player in particular gets called out for his defensive credentials, plus Agent Zero reveals how he was once third in steals despite playing no defense.

Guest Metta World Peace Talks Warriors Fail, LaVar Ball Biz

On today's episode of #OutofBounds, 2010 NBA champion Metta World Peace (a.k.a. Ron Artest) joins Gilbert Arenas, Adam Caparell, and Pierce Simpson to discuss the Rockets' surprise 95-92 win over the Warriors to even up the Western Conference Finals and reclaim home-court advantage. Gil and Metta break down what went wrong for Golden State in the game, as well as the problems that dominance has created for them. Plus, Gil points out what Klay Thompson needs to add to his game to help Golden State.

Looking ahead to Game 5 of the Eastern Conference Finals, the panel debates whether Boston will continue winning at home or if LeBron James and Cleveland will take command of the series on the road. Metta shares the story of how Phil Jackson got the most out of him before Gil reflects on having been scared to make mistakes when he was in Orlando. Plus, the crew reacts to King James tracking as the slowest player in the series — and his irritated response to that info — clarifying the kind of speed LeBron possesses and the kind that he does not.

Next, OOB discusses the NBA All-Rookie teams and unanimous selection of the 76ers' Ben Simmons and Jazz’s Donovan Mitchell to the first team. Gil and Metta take issue with the Celtics' Jayson Tatum not being a unanimous pick. Metta then shares his experience guarding rookie LeBron and the best game he ever had against him.

With LaVar Ball in the news again — this time because he said his sons will be billionaires before LeBron, and because ticket prices for his JBA league are absurdly high — the panel gives him a reality check. Metta has faith in the Big Baller Brand but Gil is hilariously skeptical.

After Metta's former teammate Kobe Bryant responded to Kanye West’s infamous quote about slavery being a choice, the guys react and voice their own opinions. Was Kanye out of his damn mind or misunderstood? Gil and Metta explain how they avoid saying things they'll regret when microphones and cameras are constantly in their faces. And when discussion turns to mental health in the NBA, they explain why players don't talk openly to the sports psychologists made available to them.

Finally, Metta talks about his new book — No Malice: My Life in Basketball, or: How a Kid From Queensbridge Survived the Streets, the Brawls, and Himself to Become an NBA Champion — plus the pressure he felt while in the NBA and once his playing days were done, and his Knicks workout fail. Gil chimes in about the difficulty adjusting to life after the NBA and tells the story of the time Metta body-slammed him during a game.

LeBron Breaks Playoff Scoring Record; Is Brad Stevens' Coaching Overrated ?

On today's episode of #OutofBounds, Gilbert Arenas, Adam Caparell, and Pierce Simpson discuss LeBron James breaking the record for the most playoff field goals made, as the Cavs beat the Celtics 111-102 in Game 4 to even the Eastern Conference Finals. Gil explains why the loss is a bad sign for the Celtics despite Boston still having the home-court advantage, before asking if rising star Brad Stevens is actually overrated as a coach.

Continuing the LeBron talk, in "Fair or Foul?" the crew weighs in on an effort to raise $1 million on GoFundMe to commission a life-size statue of high-school-aged King James in Akron, Ohio. Is it OK to erect a monument to a player while they're still playing? Will doing so affect whether LeBron decides to stay in Cleveland? Also, the guys give their picks for players who deserve statues, and Gil has some slander for Adam's Knicks.

Looking ahead to tonight's Game 4 of the Western Conference Finals in Oakland, OOB asks if Warriors superstar Steph Curry, who exploded for 35 points in a Game 3 blowout win, is officially back. The team also reacts to Rockets coach Mike D’Antoni's eyebrow-raising comments about the pressure being greater on Golden State and Houston bringing its "A game" in Game 4. Plus, Gil explains what bench players are thinking at the end of lopsided games.

Finally, league documents reportedly show that several NFL teams consider Colin Kaepernick — who remains unsigned — a legitimate starting QB. Debate heats up as the squad asks if these documents increase the likelihood of Kaep winning his collusion case against the NFL, as well as what the case has revealed about NFL teams' priorities.

In this episode of the Brilliant Idiots podcast from the Loud Speakers Network, The Breakfast Club’s Charlamagne tha God and stand up comedian Andrew Schulz discuss Trump's plans to meet with Kim Jong Un for peace talks in Korea, Wax's tips for avoiding STDs, plus Jordan Harbinger stops by to discuss leaving The Art of Charm podcast.

Steph Curry Cooks Rockets; Gilbert Arenas on Nick Young Wearing Hibachi ...

On yesterday's episode of #OutofBounds, Gilbert Arenas, Adam Caparell, and Pierce Simpson discuss Steph Curry finally catching fire, scoring 35 points as the Warriors humiliated the Rockets 126-85 to take a 2-1 lead in the Western Conference Finals. Gil explains why Chef Curry cooked — scoring 26 in the second half — after underwhelming in Houston. Also, he breaks down what James Harden is doing wrong on offense.

Speaking of Game 3 in Oakland, Nick Young showed up to Oracle with an interesting assemblage of statement pieces, including a pair of Gil II Zero Hibachi shoes that he may or may not have stolen from Gil. In "Fire Fit," OOB rates Swaggy's look and whether his on-court performance lived up to the Hibachi name.

Looking ahead to Game 4 between the Cavs and Celtics, the guys ask if Cleveland will display the same intensity they did when blowing Boston out 116-86 in Game 3. Plus, Gil explains why the C's are good at home but suspect on the road, what Marcus Morris is doing while trying to defend LeBron James, and which player is the surprising key to Cleveland's success.

Next, after Johnny Manziel signed a two-year deal with the Hamilton Tiger-Cats in the Canadian Football League, our panel discusses the move. Is it a good option? The only option? Johnny's goal is to play well in the CFL and get another look from an NFL team, and Gil lays out exactly what he has to do to make that happen.

Finally, it is reportedly “just a matter of time” until Kansas City and Seattle get NBA teams again in expansion. In "Top 5," the OOB crew makes cases for cities that should get franchises, reasoning ranging from strong regional feuds, to strip club scenes. Do you agree that these spots would be great additions to the Association?

The Joe Budden Podcast Episode 162 | "Revolt Boyz"

Revolt boyz in the building (not really)! Joe kicks off this weeks episode discussing his Revolt deal as Rory and Mal congratulate him and let the jokes fly (10:10). Also, Tidal has been accused of manipulating and enhancing their streaming numbers for certain artist, which leads the crew to speculate. In addition, another streaming service, Spotify has decided to remove R.Kelly and XxxTentacion from all playlist (33:24). And friend of the show, Cardi B seems to be surrounded by drama as women in hip-hop are starting to turn against her (46:18). Thank you all to those who have purchased tickets to the tour.
