IN THEATERS NOW 07/18/14

WE'RE BACK !!!! DID YOU MISS US ???
Hey BlvdAve faithfuls, its been forever since we've last made this kinda post and sure there's several blogs or websites you could go to, but you chose to come here so we appreciate it !! So lets get right to it !

PLANES: FIRE & RESCUE
Adventure flies higher than ever before in this sequel that finds championship air-racer Dusty Crophopper (voice of Dane Cook) beginning an exciting new career fighting forest fires. In the wake of another successful racing season, Dusty returns home to Propwash Junction to resume his training. But a debilitating injury forces Rusty to consider a new career path. Before long Rusty is training with the Aerial Fire Fighters at Piston Peak Air Attack Base. Becoming a Single Engine Air Tanker (SEAT) is no simple task for an injured plane, but with the guidance of seasoned fire-and-rescue helicopter Blade Ranger (voice of Ed Harris), fearless leader of the Piston Peak Air Attack team, Rusty is soon soaring through the clouds once again. Meanwhile, as Rusty gets up to speed, his presence in the unit catches the attention of Dipper (voice of Julie Bowen), a cargo hauler-turned-water scooper capable of skimming lake water to combat raging fires. A major racing fan, Dipper can hardly contain her excitement at the prospect of working alongside Rusty, and meanwhile wise, heavy-lift helicopter Windlifter (voice of Wes Studi) has never encountered a fire he couldn't conquer. In no time Rusty has made a whole host of new friends at Piston Peak, including hulking transport plane Cabbie (voice of Dale Dye), the brave grounded firefighters known as the Smokejumpers, the Secretary of the Interior (voice of Fred Willard), and Nick "Loop'n" Lopez (voice of Erik Estrada), a helicopter cop with an illustrious past. And though learning the secrets to dousing forest fires is sure to take time, Rusty is a fast learner, and eager to pitch in.

SEX TAPE
A married couple embark on a mad dash to recover their sex tape after it goes viral in this Sony Pictures comedy from director Jake Kasdan (Bad Teacher, Walk Hard: The Dewey Cox Story). Their once-scorching sex lives doused by a decade of marriage and two kids, Jay (Jason Segel) and Annie (Cameron Diaz) were only trying to recapture a little of that pre-marriage passion when they decided to fire up the video camera, and try every position in The Joy of Sex. Later, they are terrified by the realization that their intimate video has been uploaded to the cloud, and synched to the iPads they gave their family and friends for Christmas. Now, in order to save their reputations and avoid some serious embarrassment, Jay and Annie race around town on a madcap mission to collect each iPad. Unfortunately for them, the cloud works in mysterious ways. Rob Corddry, Ellie Kemper, and Rob Lowe co-star.

THE PURGE: ANARCHY
A vengeful father comes to the aid of a mother, her teenage daughter, and a defenseless young couple on the one night of the year that all crime, including murder, is legal in this self-contained sequel from producer Jason Blum and original Purge writer/director James DeMonaco. As the countdown to the Purge starts ticking, struggling waitress Eva (Carmen Ejogo) risks her safety by staying late at work to ask her boss for a raise. Later, as she returns home to her elderly father (John Beasely) and daughter Cali (Zoe Soul), bickering couple Shane (Zach Gilford) and Liz (Kiele Sanchez) attempt to make their way out of the city following a frightening run-in with a gang of masked, machete-wielding thugs. While these five people are eager to seek sanctuary from the impending wave of violence about to flood the streets, a lone stranger (Frank Grillo) intent on seeking vengeance for the wrongful death of his son plans to draw blood from the man responsible. Armed to the teeth as he cruises the city in a modified muscle car, he gets sidetracked from his mission when he sees Eva and Cali fighting for their lives against a small army of black-clad soldiers. Against his better judgment, he rescues the pair, only realizing later that Shane and Liz also jumped into his backseat in order to escape a gang that disabled their car and were hunting them through the streets. When the stranger's car is similarly damaged beyond the point of repair, this unlikely group must stick together in order to survive the night. But little do they realize that their nightmare has only just begun.

In the wake of her husband's stroke, loving wife and mother Vanetia (Maxine Peake) gradually comes to realize that her household will never be the same again. Much to Vanetia's relief, a research grant from American doctor Ted Fielding (Will Forte) provides the funds needed to remain financially afloat. Ted wants to study how the family copes with such a severe trauma, and though at first his presence in the home strikes a chord of resentment in the overburdened Vanetia, he exhibits an air of tranquility that soon becomes a source of deep comfort to her. Likewise, Vanetia's unwavering strong will awakens a newfound sense of vitality in the reserved Dr. Fielding, resulting in growth and healing for all involved.

Box Office RESULTS: MLK WEEKEND

A Big 3-day MLK weekend with box office showing a 30% increase from last year to become second biggest MLK weekend ever with an est. $215.5M take total. Hey, thanks, Universal for giving it a one-two punch (Lone Survivor, $23.2M 3-day). Last night’s estimates for all pictures, including this weekend’s crowning champ, Ride Along, are holding steady, with a 3-day estimate now at $42.1M and a 4-day expected in at $48.1M from most distribs (Universal is still being cautious, saying $47.7M). For more info about Ride Along (the Tim Story directed,  Ice Cube and Kevin Hart starrer), read the updates below the numbers. So nothing much has changed from last night. And will take a look at other Oscar nominated pictures. The-Nut-Job-Movie-2014In the meantime, Open Road Films’ The Nut Job has stored away a tidy $20.5M for the three-day and $26.6M to $27.2M for the 4-day and can only imagine how much more it would have gathered hadFrozen melted some, but Disney’s picture can’t stop itself. Open Road Films is ecstatic, noting that Nut Job is the highest animated opener ever for a non-studio film (bigger than previous record-holder Coraline which opened to $16.8M in the 3-day in 2009). It’s also bigger than than Escape From Planet EarthFree Birds — both did 15.8M — and Hoodwinked, $12.4M. “We’re over the moon. We knew the picture was terrific and would play well with the young kids and into the teens. What helped us was the evening business,” said Open Road CEO Tom Ortenberg. “We knew the picture deserved numbers like this. It’s a testament to our marketing and distribution team, (marketing pres.) Jason Cassidy and (evp distrib.) Elliot Slutzky.” Jack Ryan: Shadow Recruit is in fourth opening very soft and its worldwide gross expected at $41.6M so far. Don’t see how this film will become profitable. American Hustle got a nice little bump to take 6 and The Wolf of Wall Street in 9th and Her looks to nab the 10 spot.Devil’s Due, well, it’s … ah, never mind. How much will football impact today. It’s a key day for Ride Along, although it’s got a strong female audience on this one so that’s good news for Universal.
